Tether
USDTTether and dollar value
Tether USDt, traded as USDT, is designed to track one US dollar. A private issuer manages reserves and sets issuance and redemption conditions. The token is neither a banknote nor a personal dollar deposit at a bank.
USDT is used for trading, settlement and transferring dollar-denominated value across supported blockchains. Its target value depends on that arrangement, not on the token’s name alone.
Reserves, redemption and market liquidity
Reserve composition, availability and redemption conditions matter when evaluating a stablecoin. Selling USDT on an exchange differs from redeeming directly with its issuer, where eligibility and customer checks apply. Exchange access does not guarantee equivalent direct redemption access.
During stressed trading, prices can fall below or rise above one dollar. Arbitrage, liquidity and confidence influence the size and duration of a deviation. Small percentage moves have a different meaning here than ordinary Bitcoin volatility.
Transfers and comparison
The sending and receiving services must support the same blockchain and token version. Fees depend on that network; TRON, for example, has its own resource model. A USDT/USD chart describes its dollar relationship, not dollar purchasing power. USDC provides a comparison with another issuer.
