Stellar
XLMStellar and lumens
Stellar is a blockchain network focused on transferring value and supporting issued assets. XLM, also called lumens, is its native asset. Network activity can involve XLM as well as tokens issued by other participants.
The ability to represent an asset on a ledger does not remove the conditions of its issuer. A dollar-linked token still relies on its own reserve, redemption or collateral arrangements.
Payments, asset issuance and applications
Stellar’s network functions can support payment routes and exchanges between assets. Practical access depends on the participating services, available liquidity and any entry or exit conditions for the underlying currency.
Transaction fees and minimum-balance rules have a different role from the notional value being transferred. A large stablecoin payment does not mean the same amount of lumens was bought and retained.
Relating XLM price to use
Price can respond to payment adoption, tokenisation, application activity, exchange supply and wider crypto conditions. Use several measures rather than equating one network statistic with valuation. XRP offers another payment-oriented network, while USDC illustrates a separately issued dollar-linked asset.
