Zcash
ZECZcash and shielded transfers
Zcash is a cryptocurrency with privacy features based on zero-knowledge proofs. Its transaction system can support shielded information as well as transparent activity. The privacy properties depend on the actual transaction type and how it is used.
ZEC is the network’s native currency. A service listing ZEC does not necessarily support every shielded feature available in the protocol.
Privacy and service compatibility
Selective disclosure can make information available to an authorised recipient without making every detail public. This differs from assuming that all activity associated with a coin is automatically hidden.
Wallet choices, deposits, withdrawals and exchange policies influence practical use. A technically supported private transfer and the privacy of a user’s entire financial activity are not the same thing.
Supply and ZEC price movements
Mining economics, issuance, exchange access and demand for privacy-related services can influence the price. Low liquidity may amplify sudden moves. Monero offers a different privacy design, while Bitcoin provides a comparison with a broadly transparent transaction ledger. Read price and volume together with those differences in mind.
