Solana
SOLSolana and the SOL asset
Solana is a blockchain for applications, token transfers and other transactions. SOL is its native asset, used for network fees and staking. Its design aims to support substantial activity on a shared base network.
Transaction speed, capacity and the decentralisation of infrastructure are separate properties. A low displayed fee does not describe every cost or risk of using an application.
Applications and network operation
Activity can come from trading, payments, stablecoins and consumer applications. Some transactions are automated or related to network operation. Raw transaction totals should not be treated as the number of distinct paying users.
Validators and delegated stake contribute to securing the network. A staking return depends on issuance, fees, validator conditions and the market price of SOL. It is not the same measure as a business profit margin.
Supply and interpreting SOL charts
Price responds to application demand, token supply, infrastructure reliability and broader crypto liquidity. Short bursts of trading can temporarily inflate activity without establishing lasting demand. Ethereum, Sui and Avalanche provide comparisons with different execution and scaling designs.
