Soybeans
ZS · CBOT · futuresSoybeans and their processed products
Soybeans are processed into products including soybean oil and meal. These serve different uses, such as food, industrial applications and animal feed. Demand for the bean therefore connects to the economics of more than one output.
The ZS series follows CBOT soybean futures in USD per bushel. The displayed price is converted from US-cent source quotations where required, without altering contract volume.
Harvests, trade and crushing economics
Weather, acreage and yields shape production. Export demand and transportation influence where supplies are available. Processors compare the cost of beans with the value of oil and meal, so the mix of output prices matters.
A change in demand for one processed product need not create the same movement in every soybean-related market. Stocks and delivery timing can also alter nearby prices.
Links with other crops
Farmers may compare soybean economics with corn. Local physical prices include differences for transport and quality. Wheat offers another crop comparison. Use consistent periods and remember that the continuous futures series changes delivery contracts; it does not represent one unchanging stock of grain held throughout the chart.
