How to read institutional 13F holdings
Follow an original report from its manager to individual rows and sources.
Choose a manager and filing
Opening loads the default manager’s actual filing. You can then choose another manager and its exact quarterly filing. The latest filing may be a 13F-NT notice without its own table; an older report is not substituted.
Distinguish the original clocks
Period end, filing date, SEC acceptance and document capture are separate clocks. Reported holdings are neither today’s portfolio nor a record of exact trades.
Inspect every reported row
Search, sorting and pagination change presentation only. Repeated CUSIPs stay separate; class, SH/PRN, options, other managers and voting remain on the original row. A CUSIP does not establish a verified ticker.
Read value and scope correctly
The supported current format reports values in USD rounded to dollars. Matching cover counts and totals checks this table, rather than establishing all manager assets. Amendment scope and any confidential omission stay visible.
Inspect sources and download the whole
A row’s dossier retains original values and filing context. Inspect source documents, hashes and age. JSON/CSV contain the whole applied result, independently of search or the open row.
Compare two consecutive quarters
In quarter comparison, select two exact filings from the same manager and apply the selection. A group combines the exact same CUSIP, class description, SH/PRN and option; its detail retains every original contributing row from both reports. A changed class description is not automatically treated as the same identity.
Newly and no-longer reported groups describe presence in the table. An absent side is not zero ownership. A change in reported quantity does not establish a purchase or sale, and a USD value change is not price return. Notices, amendments, confidential omissions or incompatible scope have an explicit calculation-unavailability reason; original inputs remain in the whole export.
Select groups across multiple managers
In the combined view, choose managers, exact filings for the same quarter and an operation: union, intersection or a minimum reporting-manager count. Each manager counts at most once per group; all its original rows remain in detail. Apply the selection explicitly.
A notice or unavailable table stays unknown coverage in the denominator. Results show lower and upper possible counts and groups with undetermined membership. An incomplete observed list does not establish an empty intersection. Reported amounts and weights belong to individual reports; the combined selection is neither total assets under management nor a trade recommendation.
Original filing availability
Unavailable actual sources do not produce substitute holdings.
