Reading commodity futures references
Explore selected Yahoo Finance commodity futures references, their original units and history. Learn how a reference price differs from an identified tradable contract.
A reference is not an identified contract
Opening Commodities automatically reads the bounded actual reference overview. The fixed cohort is GC=F, SI=F, HG=F, CL=F, NG=F, ZC=F, ZW=F and ZS=F. These are provider futures references, rather than spot prices. Actual tradable contract identity, expiry, settlement and roll methodology are not established or inferred from a label. Unavailable symbols stay listed; another commodity is not substituted for a missing selection.
Each reference retains its own unit
Gold and silver retain USD per troy ounce, copper USD per pound, WTI and Brent oil USD per barrel and Henry Hub gas USD per MMBtu. Corn, wheat and soybeans retain source currency USX and unit USc/bushel: US cents per bushel, rather than USD. The application neither converts nor sums or price-ranks these unlike units. Original negative prices, zero and null remain distinct. Reported percentage change is not an independently calculated daily return; its comparison baseline was not supplied.
An explicitly applied window and whole files
Filter the table by name, symbol, unit and category. Select an exact reference and confirm its dates with Apply window. Chart, exact table and JSON/CSV use the same whole result of selected completed provider points, up to 120 days. Timestamps identify native provider daily buckets, rather than established settlement. Gaps remain unfilled. Table pages do not narrow export; files retain native units, negative values, zero, null, inputs and manifest.
